  • Turn Baby, Turn!

Yesterday I went to my regularly scheduled appointment with the midwife and I got interesting news.  For the past several weeks they have told me that the baby's head is down and that most likely, it won't change.  Well, little baby Olson has decided to throw some excitement into the mix.  He/she is lying transverse.  Somehow he/she has managed to get out of the head down position and lay sideways.  The head is on my right side, the back is where the head should be and the bottom is on my left side.  For the next couple weeks, my job is to try to get this baby turned around - through special exercises and even some crazy holistic medicine the midwife suggested.  Basically, if it doesn't turn, I will be facing the possibility of a cesarean.  Honestly, that kind of freaks me out - especially since I have never in my life had any kind of surgery (okay, just wisdom teeth removed), stitches, IV, catheter, etc.  But I suppose I'll cross that bridge when/if I come to it and I'll just rely on those of you who have had c-sections to give me wisdom and encouragement.  I know that God has it all under control and I just have to do my part.
Thanks in advance for your prayers!

Little Olson baby can move if he/she wants to!

Cute pic! I hope the baby turns ... what medicine did she want you to take?
So, I am here to give you some encouragement regarding a possible c-section. It is very surreal and strange ... and exciting because it happens so quickly. I found that the recovery wasn't too bad. On the way home from the hospital Nate and I went to Target (for vicodin and stool softener =)  ) and a week later we traveled to Indiana. I actually stopped taking the vicodin before I even ran out because I felt well enough to do so. Although there is pain involved, it isn't overwhelming.
I truly think that attitude and mindset play a MAJOR role in recovery and healing. If you go into with confidence and a positive attitude then I think it will make things smoother for you.
Either way, you will have a beautiful baby as the outcome. That is the most important thing ... :)

You and Baby Olson are adorable.  I will be praying for him/her to turn.  I know how freaky it is to face a c-section, though I will add my encouragement to that above.  I've had three of them now (yikes!) and it really isn't bad at all.  Being prepared emotionally was the biggest part.  The actual surgery and recovery were smooth and easy every time.  In fact, I'd say my second two c-sections (the ones without the 24 hours of labor beforehand!) were way easier to recover from than a natural birth.  For what it's worth.  Still, as I said, praying for baby to turn...and for your peace of mind, too.  Love you!

Hope the exercises and medicine work well! Whitney's baby was breach for a little while near the end, which was surprising, but he turned head down before delivery. I agree with whoever said it's about emotional preparation. They mentioned a c-section while I was laboring with Emie because she was in minor distress at times, and I was amazed at how devestated I felt. But if I had thought about it beforehand and realized it's always a possibility, I would have handled it better. Hope that helps a little... You look super-cute! Can't wait to hear news of baby Olson!

SO adorable! I miss the baby belly even though I am working hard to get rid of the one from a year ago! Okay....to qualify I need you to give me your address! I don't know if you want to wait for baby to arrive to pick one out or if you want me just to send a neutral one...let me know and of course I wouldn't mind if you posted some pics or added my button to your blog or both....BUT totally not necessary!

Count me in!  I have been drooling over your slings since before I was pregnant...so you can definitely count on me to be a good advertiser....plus, we have a lot of exposure at our church (of 2000 people)...so that would be some good publicity.   Um...when you say neutral are you meaning it would be whatever you have in stock? I just want it to be easy for you.  What would you suggest? Are there patterns that could go for boy or girl?  Or do you think it'd be better to wait? I'll send you my mailing address through a message on facebook.  WOO hoo!  (And yes, I'd be happy to post pix and your button on my blog..no problem).
